WHAT THE HECK ARE BUSINESS SOLUTIONS?

Now that I have your attention, I’d like to answer a question I often receive when asked about my business that usually goes, “Now, what is it that you do?”

I have answered this question 1,000 different ways since opening my business at the beginning of 2018, and over the years it has refined itself into, “I provide accounting services to businesses, in addition to helping them navigate and manage the other areas of their business they often don’t have time for.”

While this gives a top-level description, I think it’s important to provide a more in-depth review of what we offer.

The foundation of my business has been built on our accounting services from day one. My background and education are in accounting, but I have always been interested in many other facets of small businesses—software, design, marketing, and operational efficiency, to name a few. These additional interests are why I used “business solutions” instead of “accounting services” in my business name. I wanted this business to become as close to a one-stop source as possible for small business owners to get the things they need.

So, what the heck are business solutions? I think an example is helpful here, so let’s consider an individual who comes to Freeman Business Solutions and is starting a service-based business in their community. We can set them up with a business logo, website, business email, social media accounts, and accounting software, to name a few. We can offer monthly recurring services, such as bookkeeping, that include financial reports and reviews throughout the year. If they need marketing materials, we can facilitate that as well. Maybe they are interested in a specific job software for their business, so we help them navigate ensuring it’s the right fit. Beyond what we handle in-house, we can offer to put them in contact with people within our network for things like business insurance. Whether we offer the service in-house or not, we are your partner in helping you obtain the resources your business needs.

Small businesses can fit into many categories, but I really love a local, small community business. Luckily, we are surrounded by them in the Hickory and Granite Falls, NC area. These businesses are the ones you may see on Main Street in a small town and have built their business solely on reputation and good service. My favorites are the local service contractors who have not an ounce of marketing on their vehicles or online, but they are servicing the whole community based on word of mouth. Those are the people I admire most since their marketing is solely letting their work speak for itself. A lot can be learned from businesses of that nature, as I know I have.

We are in a world now where we are constantly competing for the five-star review on Google, and we sometimes forget that great work still speaks louder than a search ranking. We aren’t here to claim we can do it all, but we are confident we can do a lot in unison with our network of business partners.
